August 11, 2008 summer Olympics of Antarctic commenced. Residents of permanent stations are playing volleyball, football, basketball, pool and table tenis. Russia, Chile, China, Uruguay, Korea,
Argentina and Brasil are represented.
Its mid-winter in Antarctica and the Chilean base Frei threw a Masquerade party..
The winter this year in Antarctica is unusually warm. So the holiday from routine and work was really good. The Chileans organized a Masquerade, dinner and then a cultural show. All base members enthusiastically participate in the holiday spirit and planning for these events is very much a part of mission plans.
According to Russian base the warm winter and wind from North West has made life very pleasant this year..
